Navigating the global regulatory landscape is the defining challenge for manufacturers in this space. Every new coating formulation must pass grueling, multi-year migration tests to gain approval from stringent regulatory bodies like the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Furthermore, the industry is increasingly focused on environmental sustainability. There is a massive push toward developing high-solids, low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compound), and waterborne coatings to minimize harmful atmospheric emissions during the manufacturing and curing processes.
