Keeping your ResMed AirFit P30i nasal pillow mask clean is one of the simplest ways to protect your skin, maintain a solid seal, and get consistent results from your CPAP therapy. Here's a straightforward daily and weekly cleaning routine to keep your mask in top shape.
Daily Cleaning (Every Morning)
- Disassemble the mask. Separate the nasal pillows, frame, and elbow from the headgear.
- Wash the nasal pillows and frame in warm water with a mild, fragrance-free soap. Avoid antibacterial soaps, alcohol, or bleach, since these can break down the silicone faster than normal use.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue. Leftover soap can irritate your skin or interfere with the seal.
- Air dry away from direct sunlight before your next use. Heat and UV exposure can degrade silicone over time.
- Wipe the tubing connection point with a damp cloth if needed. You don't have to wash the full air tubing daily, but a quick wipe prevents buildup at the connector.
Weekly Cleaning (Once a Week)
- Hand-wash the headgear in warm, soapy water. Gently squeeze rather than scrub to protect the elastic and fabric.
- Rinse well and lay flat to dry, away from direct heat, which can weaken the straps' elasticity over time.
- Check the QuietAir vent on the frame for dust, buildup, or blockages. A blocked vent can make the mask louder and affect how exhaled air is released.
- Wash the full air tubing (if it's not a disposable type) with mild soap and water, then hang it to dry completely before reconnecting.
- Inspect all mask parts for early signs of wear, cracking, or discoloration, and note whether your nasal pillows are approaching their two-week replacement point.
What to Avoid When Cleaning
- Bleach, alcohol-based cleaners, or scented detergents
- Dishwashers or washing machines for any mask components
- Direct sunlight or high heat for drying
- CPAP cleaning devices that use ozone, which ResMed does not recommend for its mask components
Building a Simple Routine
The easiest way to stay consistent is to make daily cleaning part of your morning routine, right after you take the mask off, and set aside a fixed day each week (like Sunday) for the deeper weekly clean. A steady routine goes a long way toward keeping your AirFit P30i mask hygienic and performing the way it's meant to.
