Owing to their resilient nature and striking appearance, Yucca plants have emerged as one of the most loved succulents, especially in dry and hot areas. They’re the kind of low-maintenance plants that keep going with very little fuss, so it makes sense they show up a lot in the arid parts of North and Central America.

If you also belong to the same regional area, then Yucca plants can also be a good addition to your landscape, and you can plant them in your backyard. Well, you will also be surprised to know that many Yucca plant varieties also flower, which means that if you are looking for a flowering plant, then Yucca can also be a good choice.

However, before you start looking for care instructions and growth tips, you need to know that there are different varieties of Yucca plants that you can choose from, and here, we are going to tell you about them, so that you can pick the best one for your space.

  1. Hesperoyucca whipplei

Most of the time, you’ll hear it called Our Lord’s Candle or Chaparral Yucca, and the scientific name is Hesperoyucca whipplei.  People really notice it for its impressive look, plus those tall flower stalks that can go as high as 15 feet or so. The leaves are rigid and sharp, and they form this dense rosette that just sits there, very composed.

  1. Yucca Rostrata

Then there’s the Yucca rostrata, also known as Beaked Yucca Tree or Big Bend Yucca; it’s really visually striking in a different way. It grows a trunk that looks like a tall, slender palm, which is kind of a surprise if you’re expecting something more “classic yucca.”

It’s native to the Chihuahuan Desert, and as you might expect, it’s drought-resistant. In favorable conditions, it can reach around 15 feet, and in summer, it throws out clusters of creamy white flowers, which is a big part of why it’s valued as an ornamental plant.

  1. Yucca filamentosa

Then there’s Yucca filamentosa, commonly known as Adam’s Needle. This one is, honestly, one of the most widely planted Yucca species out there. You can spot it by the stiff, sword -ike leaves, and those curly white fibers along the edges, which create a pretty, unmistakable texture and look.

In summer, it sends up tall flower spikes, about 8 feet, with creamy white blossoms, and those flowers tend to pull in pollinators, like bees and butterflies. It’s also flexible about soil conditions, and as a hardy perennial, it works well for both residential spaces and commercial landscaping, even when conditions aren’t perfect.

  1. Yucca linearifolia

Popularly regarded as the Narrow-leaf Yucca, this Yucca plant variety is one of the most attractive species that is present in the southwestern parts of the US and Mexico. As the name sort of tells you, it has long, narrow leaves, and they grow in a rosette formation.

The leaf edges are smooth, and the color leans bluish-green, giving the whole plant that cool, refined touch in a landscape. Yucca linearifolia produces tall flower spikes lined with cream-colored flowers, and after blooming, they die back.
