Welcome to the NHL Daily Picks where hockey writers Adam Gretz and Chris Peters make their picks for all of the day's games. vs. Lorenzo Cain Jersey , 7:30 p.m. ET The two teams with the longest current winning streaks in the NHL are meeting in Tampa Bay on Thursday night, and it just so happens to be a rematch of last year's Stanley Cup Final when the Lightning host the Blackhawks. Chicago enters the game riding a 12-game winning streak, now the longest in franchise history and tied for the longest in the NHL this season with the . When the streak began on Dec. 29 the Blackhawks were in fourth place in the Central Division, 13 points behind the first place , and were sitting in a wild card spot in the Western Conference. Now after 12 consecutive wins they find themselves in first place in the Central with a five point lead over everybody else in the division. and have led the way offensively during the streak, while has been playing some of the best hockey of his career to help Blackhawks outscore their opponents by an almost unbelievable 47-22 margin. On Thursday night they are visiting a Lightning team that is also starting to quickly climb the standings. After sitting on the outside of the Eastern Conference playoff picture for most of the first half, the Lightning are now up to second place in the Atlantic Division and are quickly closing in on first-place Florida thanks to their current six-game winning streak. So much of the Lightning season to this point has focu sed on off-ice i sues, from the ongoing Jonathan Drouin saga, to where is going to be playing next season. But this is still an extremely talented team that is going to be a factor in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Their defense and goaltending has been solid for most of the season ( has actually been fantastic in net), but injuries to and up front certainly played a role in their slow start, as well as the fact it took Stamkos a while to get going offensively. But with him scoring again, and recording 10 points over the past six games (including four multi-point games) the Lightning are starting to score goals in bunches the way they did a year ago when they rolled through the Eastern Conference playoffs and were within two games of winning the Stanley Cup. No team in the NHL has a longer winning streak right now than these two teams, but one of them has to come to an end on Thursday. It's hard not to like the way the Blackhawks are playing right now because they are starting to look even better than the team that won the Stanley Cup a year ago. But 13 wins in a row in the NHL is asking an awful lot. Tampa Bay just might get them on Thursday and keep their own winning streak going. Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning 4, Chicago Blackhawks 3 The rest of Thursday's picks 3, 1 4, 2 5, 2 4, 3 3, 1 5, 3 Dallas Stars 5, 1 4, 2 3, 2 The Tampa Bay Lightning are starting to climb the standings.
