What Is Water Line Excavation?

Water line excavation is the process of digging into the ground to access, repair, replace, or install underground water pipes that supply clean water to homes and businesses. When a water line becomes damaged due to age, corrosion, tree root intrusion, shifting soil, or freezing temperatures, excavation may be necessary to reach the affected pipe.

The excavation process typically begins with locating the water line and identifying the source of the problem. Contractors then use specialized equipment to carefully dig around the pipe. Once exposed, the damaged section can be repaired or replaced. After the work is completed, the trench is filled, and the surface is restored.
