Why Your Collection Needs a Boker Arbolito Esculta

Commonly referred to as the “tree brand” in homage to the company’s tree logo, Boker is one of the most respected knife makers in the world, with a long history of knife production that spans back well over a hundred years.

In addition to Boker knives, the company also makes straight razors, axes, and other bladed tools, a nod to their experience with tools.

They are known not just for objective quality but also for fine craftsmanship, which is perhaps best on display in the Arbolito series of knives, which sport genuine stag antler handles.

One of these, the Esculta, is the focus of this post. Here’s why your collection needs one, but better yet, you should actually use the knife.

Old World Class and Timeless Craftsmanship

The Boker Knives Arbolito Esculta is a knife that announces itself. Any collection that contains it would hardly be able to conceal it.

It is almost 12 inches overall, with a blade that is nearly 6 inches in length, with a fine polish that catches the eye and a full-flat grind.

The blade sports a highly attractive drop point that is clip point-adjacent, and it’s made from an excellent steel as well; it’s Bohler N695.

If you’re not familiar, N695 is basically an upgrade to N690. To keep things as simple as possible, N695 forgoes cobalt, which trades edge retention for better toughness.

For a knife that is intended to be used, hard, in the field, that is a big bonus. This is one of those knives.

It also happens to be a surprisingly corrosion resistant steel, which is good if you use this as a hunting knife, which is its true calling anyway. You can get it bloody or greasy or wet and the steel shouldn’t easily rust or pit.

The crossguard on the hilt is another nice feature, something that isn’t seen much on knives anymore whether from Boker or otherwise. It almost seems inspired by the Buck 119 Special, another iconic hunting knife that sports the same feature.

But it’s not just eye-catching. The crossguard helps keep your hand on the grip of the knife. Even if you get your hands wet or greasy, the crossguard should help prevent your hand from slipping up on the blade.

As for the handle scales, they are another thing of beauty. Not many knife makers are still making true “stag knives” with antler handles, and Boker knives in the Arbolito series are among the few of them.

It is not just a beautiful material, the texture offers a sure, sound grip in all conditions and, unlike metal, is safe for contact with bare skin even in very cold conditions.

And, for what it’s worth, and adding to the class, the Arbolito Esculta comes with a beautiful black leather sheath that sports a strap to secure the knife.

All in all, it’s a somewhat pricey knife, but considering the quality of materials used, it’s well worth it.
